Unit 10 Blog Discussion

Your Blog
Your final blog entry is to summarize your experiences in this course and discuss how it has assisted your well-being and your ability to assist others.Complete the following and post in your blog:
Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?
Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.
Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.
Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your ability to assist others?
Participate in the blogs of at least three classmates.

I scored myself a (10) on all 3 areas: physical, spiritual, and psychological well-being; earlier in the semester and I still feel the exact same way at the very end of the course if not higher. The scores haven't changed because I haven't had any dramatic changes in my life in the last couple of weeks and I am totally happy with my life and who I am. I have made progress toward my goals of exercise, meditation, and reading my bible more. Now that this semester is over that gives me a little more time to squeeze in and work on some of these personal activities that I so desire. I have implemented the activities in all 3 areas because I am the type of person that does not like to put things off until the last minute because that only causes me more harm than good by increasing my stress level. Once I decided to improve myself physically, spiritually, and psychologically, I feel refreshed and have an even more greater outlook on life now. I have lost a couple of more pounds, gainned more spiritual knowledge, and have increased my ability to deal with ongoing stressors. My personal experience throughout this course has been truly amazing, fun, and rewarding all at the same time. The blog assignments were fun and gave me a chance to connect with my classmates on a more personal level. Nothing has been difficult except for the "subltle mind exercises" in the textbook. This will improve my ability to assist others by inspiring them to push forward in life no matter how difficult their situations may seem right now; it's never to late to take a stand.

Creating Wellness Final Project

Project
The unit nine project is an opportunity for you to create a plan that applies concepts you have learned regarding holistic/integral health. The plan is created to foster growth and health spiritually, physically, and psychologically in your personal life. Complete each of the five sections below and post the project in your blog, also submit it as a single Word document in your drop box. I Introduction: Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?II Assessment:How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?III Goal development:List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual. IV Practices for personal health:What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example. V Commitment:How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?

I. It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically because our minds are the center point for so many different aspects of our lives, In other words, if our minds are not functioning properly or normally then the rest of our body is sure to follow. I am a strong believer in the saying “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” and if we don’t feed our minds, they would die; our minds must have the proper nourishment for growth and effective functioning. As health and wellness professionals if we allow ourselves to develop psychologically then our patients and clients would feel a sense of security in revealing their personal concerns to us; knowing that they would probably get a strong, reliable, mature, and stable answer. It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop spiritually because the journey of spiritual growth is a journey of getting to know and experience who we really are in a spiritual form. “Spirituality forms when we bring the personality and the soul together in harmony” (Bruner, 2010) Spirituality at its greatest can help alleviate unwanted stress and help us to have a higher self-esteem as well as provide us a better overall outlook on life. I, myself would definitely want a health and wellness professional to have a strong spiritual background because I feel it would help me if that person could connect with me on a spiritual level and experience the things that I might be experiencing at that particular point in time from a spiritual point of view. I really believe in the power of prayer. It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop physically because physical development involves the use of our motor skills and our limbs; such as our arms, legs, and the rest of our body. It also involves exercise and physical activities such as: running, walking, jogging, and climbing. We all have heard “it is so important to be in good physical condition, and exercising is very important” for so many different reasons. Being in good physical condition consists of being able to do the ADL (Activities of Daily Living) without aches, pains, and feeling fatigue, and short of breath. It is so important to “practice what we preach” and that is why I feel that it is important for health and wellness professionals to have a strong physical development both inside and out. The area that I mostly need to develop to achieve the goals that I have for myself would be in the area of “physical development” I definitely need to exercise more and maybe even loose a few pounds; 10-15 at the most. I believe that if I did so I would feel even better about myself physically, psychologically, and spiritually.

II. After assessing myself in each domain; I score myself spiritually as a 10, I score myself physically as a 5, and I score myself psychologically as a 10. I feel that I grow spiritually each and every day by exercising my “FAITH” and walking with JESUS, I feel that I have grown so much psychologically just based on the hardships that I have encountered in my personal life that are too touchy to even name and I feel that my physical development needs a lot more work; starting with exercising more.

III. The goal that I have for myself physically; would be to get into an exercise routine and maintain it. The goal that I have for myself spiritually; would be to read my bible more. The goal that I have for myself mentally; would be to meditate more.

IV. Physically I could walk more instead of taking the elevators and park farther away from the grocery store and increase my walking instead of trying to always find the closet parking sport to the store. Psychologically I could find a quiet place in my house when my child is asleep and meditate for about 30-45 minutes once or twice a week. I could also turn the television off more in the afternoons and just sit in silence for about 15-20 minutes. Spiritually I could use my time wisely such as: while sitting under the hair dryer; read my bible instead of doing nothing, or while waiting on my car to get repaired I could be reading something spiritual.

V. I can assess my progress in the next six months by keeping a journal starting with today’s activities. The strategies that I can use to assist in maintaining my long-term practices for health and wellness include: taking one day at a time, planning big but take small steps to get there, and keep pushing no matter how hard it gets.

Unit8 Blog Creating Wellness

The Loving Kindness as well as the Meditation Practices were my favorite and I felt them to be the most beneficial. The Loving Kindness was great for me because it can be "expressed in our thoughts, prayers, and advice, or through physical assistance, and generosity that connect heart-to heart" According to (Dacher, 2006) This practice has done all the above in my life to help foster with my mental fitness because it has shown me how to connect with myself in silence and gain a better scope of my pyschological, and my spiritual well being. Meditation has shown me how to connect with my inner and outer feelings along with helping me to alleviate stress in a more positive fashion; such as when a negative thought comes into my mind don't react to it so fast but calm down, and be silent and concentrate on all positive things. I am so glad I took this class. I have really enjoyed being able to create myself and explore my innerself to the most highest level.

Unit 7 Creating Wellness Blog

Your Blog
Complete the following and post in your blog:1. Complete the "Meeting Asciepius" exercise on track #4 of the Dacher CD. Describe your meditative practice(s) for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life to foster greater health and wellness?2. Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” (P.477) How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why or why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life?3. Participate in the Blogs of at least three other students. Provide them with feedback on their strategies for growth and wellness. (Would their exercises be beneficial for you? Why or Why not? Do you have any suggestions for them? Would their exercises work for your clientele? Why or why not?)

1.As far as the "Meeting Asciepius" assignment; it was defitinely not my favorite. I did not like the assignment and it was a very uncomfortable experience. As far as "Mindfulness practices" goes, they have opened the door for my innerself to grow and respond to life's challenges more positively and more effectively. I must continue to do these exercises everyday regardless of how busy I might be in order to foster greater health and wellness.
2. In my opinion, I believe that this is saying that if one has never had any experience with situations, trials, setbacks, disappointments, hardships, or whatever the case maybe; then it would be really hard for that person to give advice to another or know exactly how another person maybe feeling that is going through something. This applies greatly to the health and wellness profession because if I am feeling down or going through some troubles then I would definitely prefer to talk to someone who has "been there and done that" or have great great professional knowledge about what I am going through. Yes I have an obligation to my clients to develop my health in every way possible because I want to be able to set a good example for them. I believe that actions speak louder than words and we as professionals should practice what we preach in order to gain trust.
I can implement psychological growth in my personal life by reducing and minimizing day to day stressors through meditation practices and I can implement spiritual growth through reading my favorite scriptures daily.

Unit 6 blog Creating Wellness

Instructions for the Assignment:
Complete the following and post in your blog:1. Practice the universal Loving Kindness (meditation) exercise on p. 93.2. Complete the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 (p.115).3. Describe the exercise and assessment process. What did you discover about yourself? What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? Why? What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area? 4. Participate in the Blogs of at least three other students. Provide them with feedback on their strategies for growth and wellness. (Would their exercises be beneficial for you? Why or Why not? Do you have any suggestions for them? Would their exercises work for your clientele? Why or why not? Etc.)
1. I felt a sense of closeness to this exercise because while I was practicing it I was at work sitting in my chemotherapy clinic surrounded by my cancer patients so this was the perfect environment for this type of practice because it not only involved me but foucused on them as well. It brought me a sense of sincerity, and a sense of compassion for my patients as well as a sense of peace and hope for myself knowing that I was doing something positive by wishing nothing but good upon other individuals as well as myself. Ididn't really discover anything new about myself but rather it only enforced the type of person I truly am and that is a "giver, inspirer, and a motivator. These are the areas that I plan to grow and develop in even more.

Exercises that could promote wellness would be yoga and pilates.
"To see another, acknowledge another, hear another, be present with another and feel one another- a lover, a partner, a friend, a stranger, and even an enemy is a profound healing gift for oneself and the world" (Dacher, 2006) I find this to be so true because sometimes when I think back at some of the hardships I endured in my personal life and I concentrate on them; they only make me stronger.
The line of development that is te most essential is just my overall weakness to fully understand that my life is very happy, joyful, and pleasurable, right now and to fully understand tht I am exactly where I am meant to be working, where I am meant to be driving the car I am driving, living in the apartment I am living in, and in the relationship that I am meant to be in.

Creating Wellness Unit 5 Blog Discussion

The two assignments were alike because they both require us to use our imagination process. By using the subtle mind practices "we can attend to our inner exeperiences and begin to transform what is ordinary health into integral health" (Dacher, 2006) On the other hand, "by using the loving-kindness practices with anticipation and perserverance, our initial faith will turn into confidence and then into certainty."(Dacher, 2006) I enjoyed having experienced them both.I now believe I can live and lead a more sensible, grateful, and thankful life because of these exercises.
2.Spiritual Wellness is a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. Optimal physical wellness is developed through the combination of beneficial physical activity/exercise and healthy eating habits. In my opinion, I believe that mental wellness means being free of depression and living your life to the fullest. Some examples include: setting goals and acheiving them, not feeling guilty about past hurts and troubles, and not beating yourself over something that you expected to happen but didn't. The connection between the 3 are manifested in my personal life each and every day because although I am still learning about life itself I feel that I have came along way than what I use to be. I am learning how to minimize the stressors in my life by praying about everything; as well as love myself first, eat right, and remember to believe in myself even when no one else believes in me. I have came along way but I still have oh so far to go.

Unit 4 Creating Wellness Blog Assignment

Upon completion of reading chapter 6, review the section ‘Getting Started’ (p.66). Begin practice 1: Loving Kindness. Listen to tracks # 1 and #2 on the Dacher CD. Practice the Loving Kindness exercise this week. In your journal (blog), record your reaction to the exercise.Answer each of the following in your blog:1. Describe your experience. (Did you find it beneficial? Difficult?) Why or Why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or Why not?2. What is the concept of “Mental Workout? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a Mental Work Out? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health? 3. Participate in the Blogs of at least three other students. Provide them with feedback on their experiences. (Do you have any suggestions or support for them? How does their experience(s) compare to your experience(s)? What have you learned from their blog?)

The Experience was one that I found to be adventorous although in a calm state of mind; Somethting that I don't think about often is how to really connect with my inner self in ways of understanding and loving even my faults and flaws which is all apart of the human flourishing. I found this experience beneficial because it has just reinforced the statement "Our first and last love is... self-love" Christian Nevell Bovee. There was nothing that I found to be difficult for me about the experience. I would reccomend this to others because I believe it promotes self-esteem and boosts self-confidence.

The concept of mental workout "allowing our minds to work daily by practicing new thoughts, and opportunities" (Dacher, 2006) "if we stop trainning our minds then they will decline growth and eventually die before the full potential of exploration has been acheived"(Dacher, 2006)

Benefits of a mental workout: "health, happiness, and wholeness" (Dacher, 2006)

The crime of the century was beneficial to me because it was a very relaxing experience that relieved my stressors that were present at the time I listened to the exercise.
